Collin Richie

Hailing from Shreveport, Collin Richie’s lifelong pursuit of photography began with a school project using a disposable camera. He moved to Baton Rouge in 2001 to attend Louisiana State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and later a Masters in Business Administration specializing in marketing. Throughout his time at LSU, Collin worked under several local studios, becoming adept at modern wedding and commercial photography and teaching himself the processes and techniques of digital technology.

After founding a photography studio in Birmingham, Collin set up his own business in Baton Rouge in 2010, gaining a wide range of experience taking specialized photographs for a variety of industries ranging from chemical plants to restaurants. He caught the nation’s attention in 2016 when he founded Humans of the Water, a portrait project documenting victims of the devastating August flood.

  • A selection of these photographs was displayed at the Louisiana Art & Science Museum in the exhibition Faces of the Flood. Collin was interviewed by multiple media outlets, including the BBC and Ari Shapiro’s All Things Considered on NPR, on his work regarding the flood. Collin was recognized with Baton Rouge Business Report’s Forty Under 40 award in 2016 and also earned a spot in The Knot’s 2015 Hall of Fame for wedding photography. Turning toward fine art, Collin took first place in Baton Rouge’s 2016 Art Melt, an international juried art competition staged by Forum 35. Collins’s professional accolades include winning first place in Rangefinder Magazine’s national portrait contest in 2018 for his work with hospice patients.

Collin is a regular contributor to several local publications including Business Report, 225 and inRegister and his most recent work can usually be found in the latest issues.

Personally, Collin and his wife, Janay, have 3 children - Esme, 1 - Delaney, 3 - and Ford, 5. In his spare time, Collin likes to garden, build Lego's with his kids, and enjoy craft beer with football on in the background.

Sean Gasser, Freelance Photographer

When Collin found out he was expecting his first child, he reached out to Sean in 2017 to see if he would have any interest helping out and covering during the first month. That turned into a five year and counting relationship, the two shooting together often. Sean worked for Collin fulltime until 2021, when he began his own company, specializing in portrait, event, and editorial photography. Sean continues to work with Collin on a freelance basis and the two have become close friends over many critiques and college football games.

Personally, Sean studied Mass Communications at SLU and holds an MFA from the University of Miami. He enjoys street photography and has served as cinematographer on several short films that have been shown in film festivals around the country. He used to fill his free time reading, traveling, watching movies, distance running, and LSU sports but now his newest focus is his 2 year old daughter, Olivia.
